Isaiah 36:18-22
“Do
not let Hezekiah mislead you when he says, ‘The Lord will deliver us.’
Have the gods of any nations ever delivered their lands from the hand of the
king of Assyria? Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where
are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have
they rescued Samaria from
my hand? Who of all the gods of
these countries have been able to save their lands from me? How then can the
Lord deliver
Jerusalem from my hand?” But
the people remained silent and said nothing in reply, because the king had
commanded, “Do not answer him.” Then Eliakim son
of Hilkiah the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary and Joah son of Asaph
the recorder went
to Hezekiah, with their clothes torn, and
told him what the field commander had said.
This story is between king Hezekiah and king Sennacherib. Let us see what happens in this true story that occured during Isaiah the prophet's time. All of the above characteristics proceed out of the sinful nature of the Devil in you. So you could see how Sennacherib was filled with it. What happens when you have matured in the sinful nature of the Devil in you, like Sennacherib? One very visible and dominant characteristic of the above is arrogance." How then can the LORD deliver Jerusalem from my hand, he arrogantly challenged God? Sennacherib only knew the power of his own hand all his life but He is about to experience the power of God's hand. You can use or abuse the pair of hands given to you by God, but once you start challenging Him out of your arrogance from the sinful nature of the Devil in you, then like Sennacherib you would need to see the power of God's hand demonstrated upon your life.
