Peter answered him, “We have
left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?”
Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man
sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve
thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or
brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife
or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will
inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and many who are
last will be first.
We haven't come to the renewal of all things. Soon it will be. Everything will be made new. There will be a new Ruler. There will be new rulers assisting Him. He will rule from a new and glorious throne. His rule will be righteous, just and fair. Everyone will be repaid accordingly for everything they had done, whether good or bad. Many who made themselves as kings and queens will be dethroned. Many who sought first place in this present world will be made last. Those who were last and humbled themselves before God and man to be last will be made first in God's coming kingdom.
Peter who said: "we have left everything to follow you! what then will there be for us" went back into fishing when the Lord Jesus Christ was tried and sentenced to death. The Lord Jesus Christ asked Him at this stage, if he really left everything to follow Him because he loved him or for some other reasons. He asked this question three times to Peter. Do you really love me? The Lord Jesus Christ had asked Peter this question because, only when you love Him you will obey Him. This was a reminder to Him. for the Lord had said earlier to him, "if you love Me you will obey my commandments and if you do not love Me, you will not obey my commandments". If you do not obey His commandments, how will Christ's divine nature be formed in you?
