Psalms 119:141
Though I am lowly and despised, I do not forget your precepts.
Some, when they know that they are lowly and despised by others, they would take the other route to prove that they are somebody great in everybody's eyes. In doing this, they will not obey God's commandments. They will start their lying, cheating, stealing, robbing, deceiving and everything else they could practice freely from the sinful nature of the Devil in them. They rather disobey God than be despised by others. For the Lord Jesus Christ it was different. He chose the path of the psalmist like in the verse above. In fact, it was a prophecy that spoke of Him. He did not forget the precepts of the LORD, even to the point of death, lowly and despised. Many of us who do not wish to be despised like the Lord Jesus Christ, would rather take the short-cut by obeying the urges and evil desires of the sinful nature of the Devil instead. In that way, we could avoid being despised and persecuted by the world.
Wide is the gate of those who obey the sinful nature of the Devil in them. Narrow is the way of those who choose to obey everything Christ had commanded. It's easier to just follow the world by obeying the sinful nature of the Devil in them. Why risk being ostracized, despised and persecuted by the world. "Let's just join them", they say! But, after being in it for a short while, they would learn the self-destructive effects of the sinful nature of the Devil in them and would start seeking deliverance from it. For some cases, it may just be too late for them to be freed from it's power.Follow the Good Shepherd now and you could be freed from the power of the sinful nature of the Devil within you for eternity and never return to pleasing it's passions, desires and urges that corrupt. Put it to death with the indispensable help of God the Holy Spirit who dwells within you.
Isaiah 53:3
He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
