Luke 1: 36-37
Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God."
A messenger to precede the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ was necessary. The right one with the courage, boldness and humbleness to say "I baptize you with water. But one more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire". One who was willing to lay down his life in death for what God had sent him to do. He led many to Christ our Lord. His birth was an unexpected one, judging by the situation and circumstances his parents were in. It was visibly an impossible situation but the LORD turned everything upside-down. Victory came to Zechariah and Elizabeth. Victory also came to the world. John the Baptist was brave enough to stand up for Christ our Lord and testify about Him in front of the evil king Herod. No one else would dare do that at that time. He was willing to pay the price for doing that with his life. He did not count his life more precious than the message he had carried to all around him, even the evil king. God can bring anything or anyone into existence from nothing. We are talking about barrenness here. For nothing is impossible with our God. He will do the impossible and shame the evil and the wicked on this Earth. He has the right time to do this. Glory will come to Him alone when He does this. John the Baptist never stole God's glory, that was due to Him alone. No one is as the LORD on this Earth ever! He is so powerful and He can do just anything unexpected. People who think that they are more powerful than our God will be put to eternal shame, like Herod. He can just do the very things that evil men and women think will not happen. He can flatten what has lifted up it's head. He can make a prisoner a ruler, like Joseph in the Old Testament times. Who is as mighty as Him? He can call into being what was not there, like gushing water from the hard-rock in the wilderness. There is nothing that He cannot do. He can turn the tables around on those who have been thinking He cannot do these things. All of a sudden, anything could happen on Earth. What you think will not happen, will happen suddenly. He is able to do just anything!
Genesis 18:13-15
Then the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really have a child, now that I am old?' Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year and Sarah will have a son." Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, "I did not laugh." But he said, "Yes, you did laugh."
